RENNES 🇫🇷 L'Antipode
w/ Hanni El Khatib, Jessica 93
"The Antipode theater was full this Thursday evening, not to see Jessica 93, nor to see The Cosmic Dead but rather to see the faux-rocker Hanni El Khatib. I don't arrive much early and I just walk in to see Jessica 93 start her concert. I've been listening to Mr. Jessica and his music for a while, which smells of the 80s. He came to Rennes, but I never managed to see him. Well it lived up to my expectations. Alone on stage, he throws his loops sometimes on the bass, sometimes on the guitar, and it does him well. It doesn't take long to set up and it's very, very good, it smells like the new/front/cold wave and it's extremely effective. The Cosmic Dead will follow who fill the room with their guitar riffs. They deliver well-crafted psychedelic rock, it’s very good. On the other hand, it’s strange that the two guitarists/bassists literally turn their backs on the audience, they only turn around at times and at the end. Then it was the turn of the star who filled the room, Hanni El Khatib. I had already seen him two or three times without feeling either hot or cold, but before going to see him again I had listened to the latest album to know what to expect during his concert. I lasted 15 minutes... It's a kind of dad's rock, where he played alone with his drummer before and he moved a lot, now there are two guitarists and a bassist lined up along the stage and it doesn't move not at all anymore, to tell the truth it made me think of a mix of ZZTOP and Lenny Kravitz. In short, I fled." - Analogic
